Constantine the Philosopher University strengthens its position as a Cultural Routes expert
The recent activities of Prof. PhDr. Peter Ivanič, PhD. and RNDr. Hilda Kramáreková, PhD., clearly demonstrate that the university is capable of successfully connecting scientific research with international cooperation, cultural diplomacy, and regional development.
From 3 to 8 November 2025, both academics visited the European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR) headquarters in Luxembourg as part of an Erasmus+ staff training mobility. Its main focus was on exchanging best practices, developing professional competencies, and strengthening international links between universities and key European institutions. In addition to the study of literature, the programme also included a working session with Rui Gomes, Director of the EICR and Executive Secretary of the EPA on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. The discussions focused primarily on enhancing the university’s position within the University Network for Cultural Routes Studies. It also opened new perspectives for the expansion of academic cooperation, joint research projects, and the deeper integration of experts from CPU in Nitra into structures that help shape Cultural Routes policy and cultural tourism in Europe. The information about the mobility was also published on the official EICR website.
At the same time, both experts actively participated in the preparation of the strategic document ‘Koncepcia rozvoja Cyrilo-metodskej cesty na Slovensku do r. 2030’ (Concept for the Development of the Cyril and Methodius Route in Slovakia until 2030), which was approved on 11 November 2025.
These international activities were subsequently followed by the participation of CPU representatives in the 3rd annual conference “Cultural Routes”, being held on 27 January 2026 in the representative premises of the Martineum townhouse near St Martin’s Cathedral in Bratislava. The event, organised by the Bratislava and Trnava Self-Governing Regions in cooperation with the Slovak House Centrope, was held under the theme “Cultural Routes with Unforgettable Experiences”. It was officially opened by representatives of the self-governing regions together with the Director of the European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR) in Luxembourg. Special attention in the programme was given to the European Cultural Route of St. Cyril and Methodius, highlighting innovative approaches to engaging the younger generation and modern methods of interpreting cultural heritage. The discussions also emphasised the development of other certified Cultural Routes, such as the Via Habsburg, the Way of St. James, and the Romea Strata, as well as their potential for sustainable tourism and regional development in Slovakia.
The active engagement of Constantine the Philosopher University’s representatives in these international and professional forums demonstrates that the university is an integral part of the European network of institutions dedicated to protecting, studying, and revitalising Europe’s cultural heritage. These activities provide not only prestige for the university but also tangible insights and experiences that enrich its educational programmes, research initiatives, and ongoing institutional development.
