Dr. h. c. prof. RNDr. František Petrovič, PhD., MBA, completed his Master’s degree in Geography and Cartography at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava, in 2000. In 2005, he completed his doctoral studies in Landscape Ecology at the Technical University in Zvolen and the Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. He received his habilitation and was subsequently appointed Professor in the field of Landscape Protection and Management at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra (UKF), in 2007 and 2014, respectively. In 2025, he was awarded an honorary doctorate (doctor honoris causa) by Lviv University of Business and Law.

He began his professional career as a researcher at the Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. Since 2006, he has been engaged in research and teaching at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics, UKF. He has undertaken research visits and professional placements in Bhutan, Poland, Argentina, Chile, China, the Czech Republic, the United States and Jordan. He is a member of several expert committees and scientific boards and serves as President of the Slovak Ecological Society. From 2016 to 2018, he served as Chair of the Academic Senate, and from 2018 to 2026 as Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics, UKF.

He has served as Rector of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra since 3 July 2026.
